INSPIRATION:

Whether you call it recycling, reuse, upcycling or repurposing; I have done this for as long as I can remember. First because materials were scarce but now because the experimentation and resulting unique products and processes that are possible. Innovation was always around me in that way because that is how I grew up but couple that with my love of art, pattern and design and it's a great mix for providing something truly unique and part of why I decided to go with "A Carol Original".

So much of what I do is one of a kind you will not find elsewhere. Most of the processes I use I created through invention, but I am by no means saying others haven't done something similar. I am adamant about never plagiarizing and really hate the phrase "steal like an artist!"

I find the most interesting conversations with fellow artists are those who have proceeded along the same paths, or even opening eyes for those to what is possible that they might not have considered. There is just something about using materials others might discard, I feel it truly brings out more creativity than buying new.

It is fun, requires innovation and adaptation toward a purpose. Some artist repurpose exclusively, but for me it is as whatever potential materials appear and my antenna is always up for that! I feel it enables me to create things that are really unique and with character. I hope you think so too!

DESCRIPTION/MATERIALS USED

This mirror is made up of the scraps of oil painting canvas scraps. The black paint accentuates the colors and the protective varnish coat offers a shine that enhances it's already rich coloring.
