Autumn Reflections

This mirror is a true reflection of Fall's array of colors.

INSPIRATION:

The landfills ARE a big issue, but I had an impetus for reuse long before the landfills became a publicly discussed issue. I recycled at first because materials were scarce therefore there was always this kind of innovation around me in that way because that is how I grew up; making out of necessity.We never called it Upcycling or any of those names back then; in fact it would be quite embarrassing back then to have to explain that you were regularly reusing materials because we couldn't afford new! 

However, now it IS something that is regarded well and there is something so fascinating to me, innovative and creative about these processes. I love making something aesthetically pleasing out of materials others might otherwise discard. I sincerely believe that creating with a dearth of materials brings out more creativity in me than new materials EVER do.

It's fun and requires innovation and adaptation toward a purpose. I've found fellow repurposing artists that do this -some exclusively, but for me it is as potential materials appear and my antenna is always up for that! Another bonus is not just that it's cheaper and practical to do so, but because it enables me to create things that are really unique, things with character. I hope you find this so too!

DESCRIPTION/MATERIALS USED

This mirror is made up of the scraps of several detailed paintings; they are the scraps after the painting is stretched. My philosophy is "Where There's Pigment There's Possibility" so you know I had to find a use for them! Some were made into bookmarks.

These designs are made cohesive both by the black paint contrasting against the colors of each painting piece used but also because it's all compiled within an Autumn color scheme. Completed in a mosaic style the various canvas piece compilation was given a protective varnish coat that offers a shine that enhances it's already rich coloring.

This wooden mirror measures 10" x 10" - 25.4 cm x 25.4 cm and is ready to hang in your home or your "besty's" abode! (Hint: it also hides nicely under a Christmas tree as that specially hand-crafted gift for the one who has everything!)
